How To Create A Bootable USB Drive For Installing Windows

USB boot is the process of using a USB storage device to boot or start a computer’s operating system. It enables computer hardware to use a USB storage stick to get all essential system booting information and files rather than the standard/native hard disk or the CD/DVD drive.

A common use of a bootable USB flash drive is to use it to boot into Windows Operating System. To determine if a computer is capable of booting to a USB device, access the computer’s BIOS and check the bootable device list. If a USB device is listed, set the USB Flash Disk to be the first boot device.

Before now, creating installation media for your Operating System of choice used to be simple, all you have to do is just download an ISO file of your Preferred OS and burn it to CD or DVD. This process seems to be getting obsolete these days because most new generation Computers being produced do not come with CD/DVD drives.

Hence, in this article, i will be showing you how you can create a bootable USB drive that you can just plug to any USB port of your PC/Laptop and Install windows without any hassle. If you are ready with me lets begin;

1. Download and Install Power ISO on a Windows PC (Click Here to Download)

NOTE: Use ‘howtosplanet’ as password when unzipping the file

2. On your Desktop, Right-Click on Power ISO Icon and select Run As Administrator

3. Power ISO will be loaded, Connect a USB drive of up to 8GB

4. Click TOOLS on the top menu, then CREATE BOOTABLE DEVICE

5. Select your Source Windows Power ISO File( You can get one here), then select your Destination USB drive (i.e the one you just connected) and Click START to begin Creating Bootable Drive.

6. Wait until the process finishes, it may take up to 15 minutes, after that eject your USB drive and close Power ISO.

NOTE: This tutorial has been tested for all versions of Windows (Windows 7, 8, 10)
